If you’re having trouble maintaining a comfortable temperature in your home, you might be having problems with your heating, ventilation and air conditioning system. In this post, air conditioner repair contractor Cooper Bros explains how to reset your digital thermostat.
As with other electronics, your thermostat needs to be reset occasionally, and it’s important to know when it’s necessary to do this. If adjusting the thermostat up and down isn’t working, then try resetting it. You may need to reset your thermostat after a power interruption or if it’s failing to regulate the temperature as usual.
Resetting it to its factory setting will help its programming and correct your HVAC system air quality issues. It’s best to regularly check your thermostat. This keeps you up-to-date on if it’s still effective at maintaining a comfortable air temperature in your home.
There are a few ways to reset your thermostat. Instructions may vary depending on the model. Most units can easily be reset by one of the following methods:
Battery backflip- This is a very quick method. You just have to install the batteries backward, wait for a few seconds, then reinstall them correctly.
Paperclip punch- This is for thermostats with a recessed reset button. Just press it in with a paperclip for five seconds, then release.
Circuit breaker flip-flop- For this method, you have to turn your thermostat to the off position, then locate the breaker for your HVAC system on your home’s circuit breaker box. Flip it to the off position for 30 seconds, then turn it on and do the same with your thermostat. Set it by adjusting the temperature settings. Be sure to observe the flow of conditioned air for improvement.
